About The Holloway/Scribner Family
The information in the Holloway/Scribner Family is largely gathered from sources on the Internet or several family sources. While it is assumed to be accurate, history has a way of confusing facts. I am simply using dates on the information researched by others. My immediate family had no written records and no verbal history. Hopefully, this composite will serve as a guide for future generations. This is an on-going project and can be edited as needed. Any assistance will be appreciated.

In an effort to prevent this composite from becoming just another long list of names some may never have heard of, I am striving to put in as many interesting historical highlights as I could find and web site references when possible. Unfortunately, the sites can not be links, but should be easy enough to access manually. There are many historical events and people that make interesting reading. Castles, manor houses, and historical events are associated with our family history.

Scrivener: scriv-en-er n.
                            A scribe or author
                          *Old French:`escrivein`

You will notice over the years these variations: Scrivner and Scribner. Other distant cousins today use the Scrivener spelling.

Holloway was found in Somersetshire, which is located in England. It is a surname of England and Ireland from Old English hol, weg- (dweller by the) hollow, sunken road, or from the place names Holloway (Middle-sex) or Holloway Farm and Wood (Devon).

First found in Somersetshire where they were seated from very ancient times, some say well before the Norman Conquest and the arrival of Duke William at Hastings in 1066 A.D.
